EDUCATION
I graduated from Oregon's East West College of the Healing Arts extensive massage therapy program, and I'm licensed by the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists. I am also a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). At East West I studied kinesiology, anatomy & physiology, and pathology. I received focus training in Swedish massage, Deep Tissue, and Myofascial Release. I have since chosen to receive further training in Spontaneous Muscle Release Therapy (SMRT), Polarity, Biodynamic CranialSacral Therapy, Neuromuscular/Trigger Point Therapy, Spa Treatments, Grief Massage, and become certified in Manual Lymph Drainage using the Vodder Method. I am also a Reiki Master and a certified Heart Meditation Facilitator through The Heart of Living Yoga. My latest passion includes being trained and certified in Vibrational Sound Therapy through the Vibrational Sound Association. |
WHAT I BELIEVE
As a massage therapist, I believe in the power of human touch. When used with the intention to comfort, nurture, soothe, and connect, the possibility for healing on a physical, mental, and spiritual level is profound. I believe that given the right environment and the right touch, that I can help facilitate ones own natural ability to heal. I believe that massage should be respectful and gentle (finding your body's perfect pressure) with the intention of calming the nervous system and aiding the muscles to relax, providing pain relief, increased range of motion, and stress relief. As a massage therapist one of the greatest impacts we have on the body is through the nervous system.
Real healing occurs when the nervous system is operating in the parasympathetic mode. When we can get the nervous system to switch from fight-or-flight mode (sympathetic response) to rest-and-digest mode (parasympathetic), we have profoundly affected our client’s health and ability to heal, in a positive way. Going deep does not have to be painful, and a relaxation massage is just as therapeutic as deep tissue. I believe that massage is a combination of intuition and knowledge. I am continually amazed at what my hands tell me when I provide an inquisitive and nurturing touch. I enjoy working with my clients to promote their education and participation in this powerful self-healing process. I am also committed to my personal growth and continuing education as a LMT.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE
Originally from Maryland, I have been an Oregon resident since 2001, and while part of my heart will always be on the east coast, I'm very happy to call Milwaukie and the Portland area my home. Prior to settling here, I attended Salisbury University in Maryland, graduating with a B.A. in Communications. I lived and worked in the Washington, DC area for quite a number of years before moving out west. From a young age I have always had a passion for helping people, listening deeply, and have been in tune with the incredible potential of a genuine, caring touch. I feel so honored to have been able to make a career out of it. On the receiving end, massage has seen me through a lot of life events....it brought sunshine back into some pretty dark days, it helped me get back into my body/heart and beat an addiction, it helped me through three pregnancies, it helped me train for and finish a marathon (ya, I don't think I'll do that again!), it helped me through injuries and surgeries, it helped me through incredibly painful grief, and it continues to balance my energy and help me feel whole.
What an amazingly, beautiful thing is the power of touch!
Outside of giving or receiving massage, I enjoy spending time in nature, painting, making all natural therapeutic bath salts and body products, studying aromatherapy and flower essences, and cheering on the Portland Trail Blazers (yes, I'm a big fan!!). Meditation, connecting to nature, following the phases of the moon, getting a lot of massage and bodywork, and finding many reasons to smile and be grateful, all help keep me fully engaged, grounded, centered, and connected.
Thank you for your interest in
Mindful Massage Milwaukie.
I look forward to working with you.
